Just Past Halfway on the 2023 Monoposto Schedule

Next weekend brings us event number seven on our 2023 calendar with arguably the biggest and most complex event on the Monoposto schedule, the WeatherTech International Challenge with Brian Redman at Road America. There are 14 run groups (and many of them also have sub-groups) with test days beginning on Wednesday and the event running through Sunday. Well over 400 race cars are entered!

Monoposto cars are well represented. On both Saturday and Sunday there is one Classic race, one for F70, one for formula 5000 and another race for modern formula cars including Indy Lights. All together the entry list shows 46 Classic cars and 41 F70 & Indy Lights - more than enough to have some fun at speed.

The track is in great shape, having been repaved over last winter, and is awesome to drive. Many of the corners are unique in North America. Turn 5, at the end of one of the longest straights has top speed plus a downhill braking area. Turn 6, under the bridge at the crest of a hill, also offers a challenging entry. The run through the Carousel takes 10 seconds in most cars so I hope your neck muscles are prepared. The Kink is a blast when properly done, just don't try to go through it side-by-side.

There are many activities through the event: road car and race car concours, and a race car parade over public roads to downtown Elkhart Lake. So many activities in fact that in prior years the competition for attention has meant small turnouts for the Monoposto party so again we will not have one this year. Trophies for our 2022 champions will be available and as of now four of last year's champions are entered in the event.

I hope to see you there.
