Why You Should Come to Watkins Glen

This year’s Monoposto schedule features two events at Watkins Glen, with the first taking place next weekend. It is the second of two Monoposto race weekends with HSR as part of their Grand Prix Classics program. As noted previously, we’ll have two dedicated open-wheel run groups, allowing each class to compete with similar cars and minimizing large speed differentials.

Watkins Glen holds a special place in U.S. open-wheel racing, having hosted Formula 1 from 1961 to 1980. The track remains an exceptional test of both car and driver, with iconic sections like the Esses, the Bus Stop, the Carousel, and the full Boot—laces, toe, heel, and the flat Turn 9 back to the short course. Its elevation changes, camber, and passing opportunities make it both demanding and rewarding, which explains its long F1 history.

As this is the first year of HSR’s Grand Prix Classics, the entry list is smaller, to the benefit of those attending.

Championship trophies for the 2025 season will be on hand. If you are a Monoposto 2025 Champion, I will find you at the track to present your award.
