Next weekend brings the 2025 Mission Foods Watkins Glen SpeedTour. This event has been on the SVRA schedule for decades and features activities like the race car tour of the original road course through town in a Grand Prix Reenactment as well as the possibility of race cars going from the track to a throwback tech inspection at Smalley’s Garage.
The event also is a pure vintage/historic weekend with none of the various pro or developmental series that ate up track time and forced the combination of disparate classes into fewer run groups last year. One can only hope that under new ownership there are more SVRA vintage/historic only events next year and beyond.
Watkins Glen is known for signature features like the Esses, the “Bus Stop”, the carousel, and all the “boot” section (the laces, the toe, the heel and the flat turn 9 that returns to the short course.) It’s truly a fun track to drive with lots of elevation and camber changes and a number of good passing opportunities.
With the racing and all the off-track activities: Smalley’s Garage, the GP Reenactment, autograph sessions and the SVRA dinner, Monoposto will still have a party. The hosts once again are Marc and Cindy Giroux and Mark and Stacy Clark. The party will begin at 4:30 on Saturday, just before the SVRA dinner. 2024 Monoposto trophies for will also be available for presentation at the party. The party will be in a stand-alone tent adjacent to the usual GMT paddock area directly east of SVRA tech in the North Paddock near the Media Center.
