Grattan Raceway Park stands out as an exemplary old school club track. VSCDA has had an August event there for many years. In the early days there basically were no vintage events in August but now you have choices. Amongst them the circuit layout and its challenging corners make Grattan Raceway Park stand out. The 39th edition of the VSCDA Vintage Grand Prix au Grattan is next weekend.
This family friendly location and event is a favorite, particularly for small bore cars with the handling capable of being quick on a circuit with plenty of blind, off camber or both corners. This track really rewards drivers who can remember the sequence of corners to best their competition.
Each year as I think of this track several features come to mind: the turn 3 to turn 4 sequence - delightfully blind and off camber, the jump between turns 4 and 5, the carousel and finally turn 9 as you crest the hill to the start/finish straight.
In addition to the typical sequence of races for each group there is the usual feature race for Formula Vees which should be heavily attended and quite competitive. There will be plenty of track time on a weekend that looks to be in the high 80s with a chance of rain on Sunday.
As there are dinners on the schedule for Friday and Saturday night, there will not be a Monoposto party. Enjoy the weekend and the racing.
